Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the Airdrie area as well as several communities along the Foothills.

The national weather service says some areas could see upwards of 25 centimeters of snow. Airdrie is forecast to receive around 10 centimeters by the time it tapers off Monday night.

The snow is thanks to a southward moving cold front. As it continues to develop Environment Canada says the snowfall warning could be expanded into other communities.

The warning for the Airdrie area includes:

  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane

Drivers are being reminded to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.
