You may not want to breathe any more than you have to in Airdrie today!

Smoke has been hovering over Airdrie for several days now but today is exceptionally smoky.  This morning's (August 11) Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) for Airdrie was rated at 10+ or very high risk.

Kids and the elderly are advised to take it easy today and the at-risk population, people with breathing problems or cardiac conditions, should reduce or reschedule strenuous activity until the air quality improves.

Even the general population are advised to watch for symptoms like coughing or scratchy throats and reduce strenuous activity if they occur.

As of 10:30 am, the AQHI had dropped to an 8 which is still considered high risk.  By tonight the AQHI is expected to be around 5 or moderate risk.  It's expected to stay there for the next couple of days.  Rain showers that are in the forecast are expected to help the situation.
