Banff-Airdrie M.P Blake Richards had a busy week in parliament debating issues such as gun legislation, taxes and even if 16-year-olds should have the right to vote.

According to Richards, the proposal is being considered by the Liberal government as part of their movement to change election laws in the country.

" This has been an issue that came out of the blue, certainly at this point, there is not specific lobbying put forward to do that but its something Elections Canada is suggesting."

Richards says that there is a reason you must be 18 to purchase alcohol or tobacco or to join the military and he doesn't see any reason to change it.

"When I was that age I would have loved that opportunity but I understood there has to be an age somewhere, for me, I'm not sure where this even came from".

Although Richards admits its an interesting idea, he says there are far more important issues at hand such as foreign money influencing the elections.  Richards' colleague Senator Linda Frum has introduced a Senate bill which they hope will put an end to foreign influence in the elections.

Parliament continues this week.
