Fireworks were not the only things lighting up the night sky this Canada Day.

A Tornado watch was issued for parts of Mountain View County, which eventually downgraded to a severe thunderstorm warning.

While Airdronians watched the potentially devestating storm battle out in the North, a severe thunderstorm watch was issued in Airdrie itself.

Following the heavy rainfall and severe thunderstorm watch of Wednesday, June 29th, Southern Alberta has been faced with a week of conditions favourable to severe weather patterns.

Enviroment Canada reminds Albertans of the difference between a severe weather watch, and a severe weather warning.

A watch means the the conditions are favourable for severe weather to potentially develope, while a warning means that one should watch the skies as severe weather conditions are already forming.
