The Minister of Service Alberta it on a province-wide tour right now, stopping at registries all over Alberta, including the one in Airdrie on Thursday.

Minister Nate Glubish is meeting with the businesses to discuss some of the challenges they face and how the government can help.

Registries offer registration information and licensing services on behalf of the government including:

  • vehicle registration
  • driver licensing and testing
  • personal property (lien) searches and registrations
  • land titles searches
  • vital statistics searches
  • Alberta Health Care registration
  • Alberta Organ and Tissue Donation Registry services

One of the biggest issues Glubish said he’s hearing is about the need for advancements in technology.

“Registries are a vital public service,” he said. “I want to make sure that if people couldn’t make it to a registry during business hours, that they can be in their pajamas on their couch at home at midnight and get the job done through a mobile app or on a website.”

The minister adds that while the province looks to modernize services, it’s important that they do it in conjunction with the registries.

“If you can do banking online, we can do registry services online, we just need to work together to make that happen,” said Glubish.

He adds that the feedback he’s getting will not only help develop new technology but also direct policy and legislation moving forward.

The tour started on Tuesday in Lloydminster and will wrap up on September 4th, with 37 stops in total.
