If you are/have a high school student who is thinking of attending university away, you may want to attend the 'Out-Of-Province Post Secondary' event.

The evening open house allows students and parents to think about what is needed/required if attending school away is a consideration.

Jackie Hatton, Bow Valley High School, Career Advisor, said information booths will be set up by a variety of post secondary institutions.

"The provinces that are going to be represented here at our school is going to be some post secondary institutions from the Atlantic province, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, Saskatchewan, and also Manitoba."

Hatton added that the evening is not just meant for grade 12s, but provides an opportunity for grades 10 and 11 to start preparing.

"Residences and what some of averages are that they are looking at for some of the programs. That is why it is really good for the grade 10's and 11's to come, because then it kind of gets them a heads up on say for example; they want to do kinesiology then what they need to do for that, what they need to be looking at, what courses they need to be taking for say grade 11 or 12, or at least grade 12 to try to apply for that program."

Hatton said roughly 30 students from Bow Valley High School last year moved out of province and many more picked secondary schools outside of the Calgary area.

The evening session has been generally well attended and is open to all community members, not just Bow Valley High students.

The free, informative evening is being held at Bow Valley High School on Thursday, October 20, from 7:00-8:30 pm.
