The Canadian Red Cross released a song on Tuesday, June 28, that was donated by Sean McCann of Great Big Sea.

McCann wrote and produced the song 'Proud' as a way to say thank you for all the donations to the Fort McMurray Wildfire fund.

Over $136 million has been raised since the beginning of May, not including government matched funds.

"Hopefully this song can be a thank you for all the people who helped, and you know were not done yet, maybe this song will remind us that we're still at work here," said McCann.

McCann who was in Banff when the news of the fire hit, said he initially felt hopeless.

"I kept seeing this disaster unfold and get bigger, and for the first three days it just looked hopeless and I felt hopeless, and then I started to see Canadians responding on mass and I started to feel hope come back into my body."

For the Canadian Red Cross, this devastation elicited the largest amount of donations in all of their post-war history.

Conrad Sauve, CEO of the Red Cross said as we approach Canada Day, he wanted to extend his thanks to everyone who has helped.

"Canadians from coast to coast have come together to support the people of Fort McMurray, and Sean's song is a wonderful tribute to that generosity."

The Canadian Red Cross is offering a free download of McCann's song 'Proud' on their website.
