RCMP remind drivers of the importance of not passing emergency responders at dangerous speeds when responders are are on the side of the road.

This reminder has come after a Calgary Police Services (CPS) member's vehicle was struck while on the side of Crowchild Trail during a routine traffic stop.

"It's for your safety, the person being detained by the officer's safety, and of course for the officer's safety." said Cst. Jennifer Weedmark, Airdrie RCMP.

Following the collision, the officer was pinned inside his vehicle, and is lucky to be alive.

Drivers are encouraged to move over on the road, to ensure that all responders have room to work.

Keep your eyes open for fire fighters, tow trucks, and ambulances as well.
