Rocky View Schools Superintendent Don Hoium is retiring following 37 years with both the Alberta and Saskatchewan Board of Education.

RVS has announced the appointment of Greg Luterbach as it's Superintendent of Schools/CEO, effective September 1st, 2016.

"I hold Rocky View Schools in the highest regard. I am passionate about public education and the critical role we play in helping produce citizens ready to contribute and make a difference in our rapidly changing world. I look forward to meeting Rocky View's students, staff and parent communities in the fall," said Luterbach.

Luterbach earned a Masters of Education specializing in education technology from the University of Calgary and a Bachelor of Education degree with a computer science major and physical education minor from the University of Saskatchewan.

With retirement on the horizon, Hoium looks to take on his new role as a grandpa.

"My life will change dramatically. So rather than starting the days early and ending them late, I will start the days when I want, and they'll end when I want," said Hoium. "We do have a 5-year-old grand daughter, so there will be a lot of grand fathering going on."

Hoium has been the Superintendent of RVS for the past 3 years, bringing a vast knowledge of not only public education but government fundamentals and First Nations education.

Currently serving as Superintendent of Schools for British Columbia's School District No. 20, Kootney-Columbia, Luterbach brings his wealth of experience in the public K-12 education sector.

Luterbach is credited for successfully working with elected trustees, leading the board through challenges such as school closures and funding shortfalls.
