At last Thursday's (April 13) Rocky View School Board meeting, trustees heard an update on the division's four year plan, which according to Superintendent Greg Luterbach, guides the division's direction around educational opportunities.

Luterbach said that the school board re-evaluates the plan annually to ensure it's working. This time around, the board decided there were no major changes needed.

"The board confirmed that we will still continue to work on our main three goals, and those three goals are that all of our learners are successful, all of our learners are engaged and that all of our learners are supported."

While the three goals remain, there are some changes to Rocky View's action plans, which help the division reach the outcomes they hope to achieve. Luterbach said that the action plans really outline the strategies that will help the school division move the needle in specific areas. Over the past two years, the major focus has been literacy and numeracy and they are seeing some tangible outcomes.

"When you look at our action plan, it really talks about providing common resources and building common language and developing a literacy team to support teachers. So, good news: check, check, check. We continue to work on those, our work isn't finished, but now we're ready to move on."

Luterbach said Rocky View can now start to talk about literacy at the middle school level, and partnering with agencies on numeracy.

Luterbach is also excited about a new action plan that will help build relationships between school and home.

"In that area, you'll see a real change in strategy where we're really focused now moving forward around a new online web portal that we're developing both for the public but also specifically for our parents."

The online portal will compile information such as grades and attendance that are currently found in a variety of locations, and put it in one place for parent convenience.
