Yesterday (October 5th), Superintendent of Rocky View Schools Greg Luterbach presented the enrollment numbers for the 2017-2018 school year.

Growing populations in Airdrie, Chestermere and Cochrane, along with two new schools contributed to a 4.65% increase in students as of September 30th.

The enrollment summary showed 1058 new students enrolled in Rocky View Schools with Airdrie receiving the highest number of new students at 675.

Chestermere was second with 243 new students while Cochrane, Westbrook and Bearspaw had 180 new enrollments.

While the news was exciting for Rocky View School Trustees, the increase will mean many schools will be at capacity or over in the next couple years with the rate of growth expected to rise.

RVS is continuing to lobby the Provincial Government for new schools, with many sites already in the works.

As part of their 2018 Capital Plan, RVS is set to push the Education Minister for schools in Langdon, Chestermere and Springbank.

They're also looking for new schools to be built in King's Heights South and Bayview in Airdrie and Cochrane's Heartland community.
