Yesterday morning (April 12th) Rocky View School Trustees voted on how to handle a one million dollar shortfall in their transportation budget.

After weeks of consultations with local parents, board trustees approved three options that are expected to save the School Division $1.05 Million.

RVS approved three new measures to save the district just over $1 million

They include picking up urban students to fill rural buses and adjusting school bell times to leave more room for double runs.

Finally, drivers will refrain from entering rural cul-de-sacs unless they exceed 800 metres. The previous rule was set at 400 metres.

“We believe we’ve made the best of a difficult situation,” said Board Chair Todd Brand. “Selecting cost-saving measures that reflect our three planning principles and having the least amount of impact on services.”

The board said that the deficit came about because of the government’s elimination of school fees from Bill 1 and from the Carbon Tax.

These transportation changes will come into effect on September 1st, 2018.
