Three principals in Rocky View Schools (RVS) are moving to new locations, all in the City of Airdrie, starting in August 2019.

RVS Superintendent Greg Luterbach has appointed Suzanne Martin as the new Principal of Nose Creek Elementary School.  Martin takes on the role, moving from her present position as principal of Heron's Crossing School, a posting she's held since 2012.

Prior to arriving in RVS, Martin worked for the Calgary Board of Education as an assistant principal and assessment learning leader.  She also taught at elementary and middle school levels in British Columbia, California, and Alberta.  

During her tenure with RVS, Martin has supported a number of school and system-based committees, including the Literacy and Numeracy Task Forces, Superintendent Working Committees on the Communication of Student Learning (COSL) and Professional Learning and the Administrative Leadership Program (ALP).

She holds a Master of Education from the University of Calgary, a Bachelor of Education from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Simon Fraser University.

Laurie Johnston has been appointed Principal of Herons Crossing School   Johnston is currently the principal of Bert Church High School,

In addition to her work with RVS, Johnston has worked in the Brandon School Division, the School District of Mystery Lake, Foothills School Division and the Calgary Board of Education.

Johnston joined RVS as an administrator in 2011, as assistant principal of George McDougall High School.  She became Principal of Bert Church High School in 2014.

As a proponent of life-long learning, Johnston is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education from the University of Calgary and continues to expand her knowledge base through various professional learning initiatives. She also holds a Master of Education from the University of Lethbridge and a Bachelor of Education from Brandon University.

Ryan Reed will become the Principal of Bert Church High School starting this fall.  Reed will move from his current role as principal of W.G. Murdoch School in Crossfield. 

Reed began his teaching caret in 2004 at Bert Church.  He then went on to work for Elk Island Public Schools before accepting an assistant principalship role in 2014 that would see him help open W.H. Croxford High School in Airdrie. 

In 2016, Reed was promoted to principal of W.G. Murdoch.  Reed holds a Master of Education from the University of Alberta, as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Management, both from the University of Lethbridge.

Competition for the principalship of W.G. Murdoch School will be held shortly. 

In making the appointments, Luterbach said, "I extend my congratulations to these administrators on their new placements,  I am confident they will continue to serve their new schools and the jurisdiction well.”
