Rocky View Schools Superintendent Greg Luterbach has announced the appointment of a new Director of Learning Services.

Pam Davidson, who's been with the division in various roles since 1992, will take on the duty effective in this summer.  Davidson calls the appointment a tremendous opportunity.  "I think Rocky View is such a wonderful organization to work with.  I've been here since 1992 so clearly I feel attached to our division.  In terms of this position, I see it as presenting opportunity to align and coordinate, in the most effective way possible, some of the work that we've been undertaking recently and over time."

Davidson is currently serving as Acting Director of 21st C Learning.  This fall, that branch will change to Learning Service.  Luterbach says they are pleased that Davidson has agreed to lead the branch.   Her tenure with Rocky View includes teaching positions, a vice principal position and four principalships.  She holds a Master of Education specializing in Adult, Community and Higher Education from the University of Calgary as well as a Bachelor of Education from the U of A.

As with the rest of the world, education has changed and Davidson says flexibility is the key to her new role.

"It isn't the classroom we used to see 15 - 20 years ago.  There are so many new tools.  Students themselves are coming to us with really interesting and sometimes complex backgrounds and interests and skills.  Trying to help them capitalize on what they're passionate about sometimes means we've got to help the teachers also figure out how best to do that."

Davidson thinks we're living in exciting educational times.  "Kids today have so much opportunity and educators are really pivotal in brokering some of those opprtunities."
