When you head to vote on October 16th, you might notice something a bit different on the ballot sheet. This year, Airdrie will use rotating ballots.

"What the rotation of names means on the ballots is that for the Mayor race and the Councillor race, everybody will have an opportunity to be on the top of the ballot," said Sharon Pollyck, Returning Officer with the City of Airdrie.

Pollyck said past research shows that rotating names on an election ballot could give candidates a favourable chance, but that's not the sole reason they're doing it.

"I don't think it's been proven, but in terms of fairness, it is fair to rotate them through."

Although the ballot will be different on election day, the way you fill it in hasn't changed.

"When the voters come into a voting station here in Airdre to vote, they're given a ballot that has ovals that they colour in," said Pollyck.

According to the candidate package, the City requested that no signs feature a check mark or x, to erase confusion on how to fill out ballots.

Pollyck said it's only a request and they won't change any signs that already have those symbols.
