Saddle up Airdrie, because a rodeo is coming to the Airdrie Rodeo Grounds for the Labour Day long weekend.

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo announced it will host an amateur event Sept. 4-5.

"We're very proud to bring back rodeo to town," said Darcy Munro with the Airdrie Pro Rodeo. "It's going to give everyone the opportunity for everyone to let their hair down and kick up their boots once again."

The Airdrie Pro Rodeo was cancelled the last two years due to concerns with COVID-19 and public health measures.

The labour day event is in conjunction with the Foothills Cowboys Association (FCA). The FCA has already held events in High River and Strathmore this summer with future stops in Water Valley, Siksika Nation and Didsbury.

While it may be different from the traditional rodeo held over Canada Day, Munro still expects it to be a fun event for all rodeo fans.

"It was tough to not be able to have the pro rodeo for two years. It's going to be nice to see fans in the stands again. It's going to be a good time, it's a chance for folks to get out again and we're looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces."

General admission tickets for the event are $20 while youth and senior tickets are $15. Children under 10 are free. Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate.

The event starts at 4:30 p.m. on both days.
