Earlier this month (April 7), members of the Rocky View School Board had the opportunity to meet with Education Minister David Eggen in Edmonton.

Overall, Board Chair Colleen Munro said she was pleased with the meeting.

"I think it was positive that it happened, that our ask and our needs are hopefully bubbling up to his priority list."

Munro said from their side, members of RVS hoped to convey the urgent need for new schools in the division to keep up with explosive growth in Airdrie, Cochrane and Chestermere

"We wanted to impress upon him the fact that to get us caught up we need three new schools at minimum."

Rocky View's urban centres are among the fastest growing in Canada, and the rate of growth means Rocky View needs at least two new schools every year to keep up.

Munro and other members of the Rocky View board expressed that they felt the meeting was positive, and that Minister Eggen really listened to their concerns. Munro said they will have to wait to see if that translates into new schools.

"I think it was received positively. I'm sure that every other school board is trying to impress upon their needs too though, so it remains to be seen if we get those schools."
