A farm in Rocky View County has won an award at the Calgary Stampede's Farm Family Awards.

Jones Hereford Ranch, owned by Allen and Shanna Jones in Balzac, were one out of 17 farms that were recipients in the Farm Family Awards as part of a long-standing Stampede tradition.

Each municipality in Southern Alberta nominate one family to be awarded and each farm represents farm family values.

This tradition has been taking place at the Calgary Stampede for the past two decades.

One other farm that won an award is B & D Simmentals, owned by Brian and Theresa Rodger, in Mountain View County.

The winners for this year received a personalized farm gate sign as well as tickets to the Calgary Stampede Rodeo.

This particular award program was originally created to promote a strong urban-rural relationship and to recognize southern Alberta farm families.

The Farm Family Awards include a reception, a meeting with Alberta's Minister of Agriculture, and a family photograph session.
