A significant rockslide approximately 16 km west of Field has Highway 1 shut down between Alberta and BC.

The slide occurred on Monday, October 24, in the evening when crews were drilling holes to place explosives at the rock scaling site.

The highway will remain closed until a geotechnical assessment is completed to clear the approximately 10,000 cubic metres of rockslide debris.

Two contractors that were working on site were transported to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

For anyone wishing to travel, an alternate route is available via Hwy 95 and Hwy 93S through Kootenay National Park.

Updates will be available on Drive BC.
