It's an important week ahead for people of faith all over the world.

This Friday is Good Friday, followed by Easter Sunday, the time that Christians believe Jesus Christ died on the cross and was resurrected three days later.

In Airdrie, St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Airdrie Catholic Prayer Group are holding their third annual processional known as Via Cruces or the outdoor Way of the Cross.

The event begins at 10:00 am at the church and will then wind it's way along the pathway that's north of Nose Creek Park.  It's a very meaningful service, according to the church's Sabrina Mabanta.

" It's very nice to get a bunch of people who find meaning in this together and praying together.  It's a very meaningful experience."

Mabanta said there are 14 stops along the way, called the stations of the cross.

"It's moments during the entire story of the crucifixion.  We go through that and we offer prayers, ask for blessings, we sing songs."

Close to 300 people have participated in the pilgrimage in the past.
