One of Airdrie's biggest fundraising events is just hours away.

The Ride Of The Mustang will once again take over the gym at George McDougall High School from April 11th to 13th.

With the opening ceremonies set to go tomorrow (April 11th), one student organizer is excited for what's coming.

"Every year we usually have a child come in from the hospital that's actually been affected by cancer. It really brings you to the other side, not just the gym side but the actual hospital side and it brings a personal connection to everyone in the room."

In the last six years that the Ride has been going on, students and members of the community have raised thousands of dollars for the Alberta Children's Hospital, and students even got to see their hard work pay off.

"In December we went to the Children's Hospital to go see our money, where it went and all the good it was doing. We got to see our name on the plaque and how much money we've raised for them and it was a really awesome experience."

With the tough economy, the Ride has seen a drop in sponsorships this year, but the students are hopeful they will reach their goal.

"The big cheque reveal is on Thursday at about 1, which is super exciting. We are really excited to see how much we've raised this year. Our goal is $777,000 in total."

Online donations are accepted till the end of the event and can be made at The Ride Of The Mustang website.
