Airdrie RCMP and the Fire Department continue to investigate what caused an explosion in a garage on First Avenue yesterday (September 6th).

Cst. Dan Martin of the RCMP says that investigators are still on scene but there’s no more risk to neighbouring houses.

“The scene has been secured. There’s no further risk to the public with regards to explosions. Investigators are still on scene conducting interviews and processing the scene.”

Two men were assessed by EMS that afternoon but later transported to the hospital for their injuries.

Police say they can’t comment on the medical status of the men involved as their investigation is still in its infancy.

“We still don’t know the entire story or the cause or anything to that effect. Further updates will be provided when that is learned.”

While some speculation has surfaced regarding the possible cause of the explosion, Cst. Martin says they still don’t have all the details.

“We want to make sure that the matter is investigated thoroughly before we come to any conclusions. We won’t be putting anything out there with regards to cause at this time.”
