If the number of people who were caught not wearing their seatbelt in 2018 compared to 2017 is any indication, the Alberta RCMP and Sheriffs' message to always buckle up seems to be registering with most drivers.

During this year's Remembrance Day long weekend, both of the forces focused on their #TrafficSafety messages to wear occupant restraints, and to wear them properly.

This year RCMP and Sheriffs gave out 70 occupant restraint tickets which is down significantly from the 119 tickets issued on the same weekend in 2017.

Alberta Sheriffs Superintendent Rick Gardner says, "Wearing occupant restraints is a simple and effective way to ensure your safety and that of others in a collision.  It reduces the likelihood of sustaining an injury and decreases the severity of an injury."
