A northbound lane on 8 Street was shut down on the morning of Tuesday, August 30, after a vehicle collided with a pedestrian.

According to EMS, at 11:10 a.m., crews were dispatched to Mackenzie Way and 8 Street.

Upon arrival, crews found a female and a male.

"A male, believed to be in his 70's or 80's, had sustained fatal injuries after being struck by a vehicle," said Adam Loria, paramedic with EMS.

The drive of the vehicle, a female who is also believed to be in her 70's or 80's, did not require transport to hospital, although she was assessed on scene due to a medical concern.

"From an EMS perspective, we're unaware of the factors which led to the incident," said Loria.

According to RCMP, preliminary witness reports said the man was crossing the marked crosswalk at Mackenzie Way where he struck by the vehicle that was traveling southbound on 8 Street, making a turn onto Mackenzie Way.

An RCMP Collision Reconstruction Analyst and Airdrie RCMP continue to investigate.
