Airdrie RCMP are investigating an attempted theft that took place at the ATB Financial branch on Market Street early yesterday morning (December 27).

Police were alerted to the crime after an alarm went out at the branch at around 2:52am. Police immediately attended the scene and when they arrived found an interior ATM had been extensively damaged and broken into. No cash was stolen.

No vehicles or suspects were seen leaving the area, but video surveillance was obtained by police. The surveillance showed two suspects using a crow bar and possibly other tools to break into the ATM. Both suspects were wearing dark coats with their hoods up, as well as black ski masks, ball caps and brown leather gloves.

Police believe the suspects fled the scene in a light coloured pickup truck. The make and model has not been determined.
