Sarah Cormier suffered one of the most difficult losses in 2014 when her four-month-old daughter, Quinn, passed away from SIDS.

While dealing with the loss of her daughter, Cormier also suffered the financial blow of losing her government maternity benefits only one week after Quinn passed.

There is no current bereavement benefit for SIDS deaths, so all families suffering with the tragic loss of a child face a possible financial burden in their time of grief.

After speaking with other families who had gone through what Cormier had, Cormier decided she wanted to do something to help alleviate the financial burden for other families.

"We needed to support other families in their grief journey, so Quinn's Legacy Run Society supports families after the financial loss from the federal government."

Cormier and her husband started the Quinn's Legacy Run Society in 2015, hosting their first run that raised $25,000.

"This past year we have been able to support two families financially, and we would like to continue to support families financially until the policy is changed."

Cormier is working with different levels of the government to change the benefits for families who have a child who passes from SIDS.

"We are working really hard to try to branch and close that gap around financial support, we've been talking with our MP and just advocating within the community."

At the July 4 City Council meeting, Cormier was able to celebrate the victory of having August 15 to August 21 named Quinn's Legacy Run week.

On August 20, Cormier will host the second annual Quinn's Legacy Run at the Monklands Soccer Fields.
