Looking for things to do for the Family Day Weekend?

Here are some activities you can try, and you shouldn't have to look for an ATM before you do since all of these are free of charge for Albertans for Family Day, with most lasting all weekend long.

Last year, more than 11,000 Albertans celebrated Family Day at provincial heritage facilities.  This year, eight provincially owned heritage facilities will offer free admission on Family Day.

That includes places like Rutherford House in Edmonton, the Reynold Alberta Museum in Wetaskiwin, Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump near Fort Macleod and the Royal Tyrell Museum of Paleontology at Drumheller where they'll be doing fossil casting, an activity that will allow visitors to make and take home a piece of pre-history.

If you enjoy outdoor activities, and aren't bothered by the cold, taking in one of the many parks in the province to enjoy winter sports or something more leisurely like roasting hot dogs and marshmallows.  You can let the family try their hands at cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, ice fishing, tobogganing, and skating.  Visit AlbertaParks.ca for a list of the Alberta Parks holding festivals this weekend.

And, if you've never gone fishing, here's your chance.  The Family Day Weekend marks the first of two Family Fishing Weekends that are put on annually in the province.

Throughout the weekend you can head out and discover the lure of fishing without the need to purchase a sportfishing license.  Of course, all regulations still apply.  You can get more information here.

Family Day is meant for families to enjoy.  Might as well not break the bank while you're doing it!
