As the fall's municipal election draws nearer, another candidate has thrown her hat into the ring for City Council.

Longtime Airdrie resident, Nicole Proseilo said she was motivated to run for Council by her love and passion for the city.

"I've lived in Airdrie since I was eleven years old, and I noticed that there were a few issues going in Airdrie that I felt needed to be fixed. I've been a huge advocate politically within the community, both on federal and provincial boards."

Proseilo was a youth engagement coordinator on a board for the Conservative Party of Canada and the President of Policy on a Wildrose Party board. She also holds a Political Science degree from the University of Calgary, where she was Vice-President for the Campus Conservative Club.

Proseilo said that a main issue she will be campaigning on for the election is improving Airdrie's transit system.

"We are growing bigger than the rate that we have capacity for, so if we have a better transit system, maybe it will get people off the streets and out of their cars so that we can maybe free up some of the roadways."

Another pillar of her platform will be advocating for a new rec centre.

"I'm a coach, and I've noticed that there has been some problems with getting prime ice time as well as a shortage of pool space. I think that our community, now that we're bigger, has some growing pains and I think we need a rec centre."

If elected, Proseilo said she will also focus on infrastructure needs and fiscal responsibility.
