One of the most highly anticipated council meetings took place on Tuesday, September 6, with the main focus of the meeting being the new Animal Control Bylaw.

The meeting was well attended by Airdrie residents wishing to express their concerns with the new proposed bylaw and one of the hottest topics revolved around cats within the city.

The discussion surrounding cats included cat trapping, cat licensing, how many cats per household, etc.

One sub-bylaw that many attendees expressed concern over was cat trapping, and how controlled that would be as some cat owners in attendance did not want untrained citizens trapping felines.

Some rules were laid out, which will be addressed within the new bylaw.

Dogs were also discussed within the new proposed bylaw, revolving around vicious dogs, off-leash dog parks, dog fostering, the amount of canines per household, and dogs in motor vehicles.

According to Municipal Enforcement, the project began in January 2015 with public input sessions being held around the city.

Nearly 200 people gave their input during the public input sessions.

Another topic that was discussed was large animals within Airdrie city limits.

For those who live within the annexed rural area of Airdrie, they must follow the Rocky View County Animal Bylaws.
