The new railway underpass at Yankee Valley Blvd is still a long ways from breaking ground, but progress is being made on the major project.

Adam Carrol, Project Manager with Airdrie's Capital Projects explains where they are in the process now.

"Dollars for the design have been approved through budget through council. Construction has not been approved at this stage. They do know council is supportive of the project itself but right now we've only been approved to go forward with the design."

Carrol says that within in the next six weeks they will have two contracts awarded, one for an engineering consult and one for a construction manager. From there he anticipates they will take the next 11 to 12 months for their design stage.

"Once we have a design and we have a budget, a defined budget then we'll take that report to council and request dollars for that construction of the project."

Council set aside $3 Million for the designs of the project when they approved their 2018 Budget in December.
