After a major windstorm on July 23 knocked out power to Thorburn, the City of Airdrie has teamed up with Fortis Alberta to better ensure the safety and security of Airdronians.

Three outages in the past year were caused by large trees interfering with and falling on power lines in the same area on the East Side. Crystal Bazar, Urban Forestry Technician for the City of Airdrie says its a problem area.

"Basically, the City and Fortis got together, kind of realized there was an ongoing issue there, so we walked through together - me, my supervisors, and Fortis, and we kind of did an assessment. So any larger defects or problems that we saw that could potentially cause future outages, we decided that those tree should be removed."

According to Bazar, other trees and shrubs were also pruned to meet safety requirements as outlined by Fortis. No other utility related work has been planned for other areas of Airdrie.
