Alberta Premier Rachel Notley says the Federal Government needs to do more to help move Alberta’s oil across the country.

Notley spoke to the media yesterday after meeting with leaders in the energy industry to look at short term options to move oil to market until new pipelines are built.

One of those short term options is to move oil by rail car.

“They do it for grain, they do it for a number of other things. There's also other things they can do before they get to that but really, it needs to happen. You’ve heard me talk about how it costs the Canadian Economy about $40 million a day, let me just say that with the differential at the rate it is now, it’s notably more than that.”

Notley says that the Federal Government has cashed out millions of dollars to other industries such as automakers and aircraft companies and shoud do the same to support oil and gas.

The Federal Liberals are set to introduce their carbon pricing plan today, aimed specifically at the provinces that are not complying with a price on carbon currently.

While Alberta does have a carbon price in place, Notley says they won’t increase that in the coming years until pipelines are finished.

“We cannot afford to do anything more on this important matter until we start getting these pipelines built and today is a perfect example of this issue. We’re talking about how significant the price differential is and how many tens of millions of dollars extra per day are being pulled out of the Canadian Economy because we can’t get our act together to get our product to market.”
