Premier Jason Kenny along with transportation Minister Ric McIvor made a major announcement this morning in Airdrie.

Accompanied by Airdrie-East MLA Angela Pitt and Mayor Peter Brown, they announced funding for a bridge and partial interchange at 40th Avenue.

The province is committing 21.1 million dollars to the project, and an increase from the $10 million for an interim ramp from 40th Avenue onto the QEII south was allocated in the provincial budget released in February.

The City of Airdrie will be committing the lion's share of the funding putting up the $62 million dollars. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $83 million.

Airdrie has been advocating for a third overpass and partial interchange at the location for more than a decade. Countless studies and reports have concluded how vital the project is for the transportation corridor.
