Canada day and the long weekend are fast approaching and weather doesn't seem to want to co-operate.

Airdrie is going to be in an unsettled weather pattern and a big trough of low pressure as of Friday.

Terri Lang, Meteorologist with Environment Canada said you can expect a variety of showers.

"When there is a trough of low pressure like this, the air is really unsettled which results in a lot of showers and thundershowers. You can see in the forecast it doesn't call for rain it calls for showers so that means it's going to be a hit and miss type of situation.

Due to the majority of the precipitation coming from showers and thundershowers, it's hard for Environment Canada meteorologists to pinpoint the exact amount.

"It could be one millimetre or thirty millimetres if you get under a heavy thundershower, it's going to be a very unsettling weekend which makes it hard to plan."

Lang also said that due to Airdrie's location being close to the Foothills the weather can change quickly.

"Because of the proximity to the foothills that is sort of the instigator for a lot of the weather, it forms on the foothills and then off it drifts from there. Like I said if you happen to get under one of the showers you could get heavy rain and hail, plan your golf games accordingly".

The Low-Pressure system is expected to persist well into next week.
