Airdrie's Muslim community met on February 3rd with somber hearts.

The tragic shooting at a Quebec City mosque was in the minds of the 50 to 60 Muslims who showed up for prayer at Airdrie's United Church.

Imam Iqbal led the weekly prayer and says it's their job to show compassion for the victims and their families.

"We feel very sad, we have a sympathy with those people. We also have a mercy, to ask mercy for the families of those people."

Iqbal went on to say that the support from Canadians after the deadly shooting has been overwhelming.

"This incident that happened has shocked every Canadian, not just the Muslim community...and we are highly appreciative for the Government of Canada and the people of Canada. They responded really nice, with the fullest of sympathy."

Airdrie's Muslim community has grown tremendously, starting from less than 5 people in 2009 to over 50 in 2017.
