The Airdrie Legion officially launched their 2017 Poppy Campaign this afternoon (October 27th).

The Legion held a special ceremony at their building on First Avenue, attended by members, Mayor Peter Brown and MLA Angela Pitt.

1st Vice President of the Legion, Michael O'Mahony says the poppy campaign continues to showcase the values that the Legion stands for.

"The three goals of the Royal Canadian Legion are support for Veterans, commemoration and service to community and all three of those goals come together during the poppy campaign which itself culminates in the November 11th Remembrance Day ceremony."

Mayor Peter Brown, Angela Pitt and a member of the Airdrie RCMP were the first to receive their poppies at the ceremony.

O'Mahony says having their support is much appreciated.

"We're honoured to have the support of Mayor Peter Brown, the MLA for Airdrie Angela Pitt, here to show their support for this worthy cause for the community."

Many poppy boxes have already been distributed to local business and the Legion hopes that they'll either meet or surpass last year's total.
