It's another hazy day in Airdrie as smoke from the BC Wildfires continues to bring poor air quality for the city.

According to the Air Quality Health Index for today (August 18th), Airdrie is expected to stay in the very high-risk category with the index already reaching 10+ as of this morning.

The index will hit 9 or 10+ at different times today.

According to Environment Canada Meteorologist Heather Pimiskern, it's hard to tell if relief is in sight for Airdrie.

"The region of Airdrie is expected to remain in the dense smoke, probably for the majority of the day and may not see relief until this evening. Having said that, the models are indicating that the plume of smoke will hug the Foothills so whether or not Airdrie gets into the clear air remains to be seen."

Unfortunately, as Pimiskern points out, any relief that comes will be short-lived.

"There may be a slight relief in the short term but in the long term, it looks as though the winds are expected to become westerly once again possibly as early as next week. Unfortunately, that means that the smoke will come back into the Province""

The smoke from the wildfires in BC has pushed its way through the Prairie provinces and even into Ontario.
