Provincial and Federal party leaders are calling the recent appeals decision on the TransMountain Pipeline a ‘sad day for Alberta and Canada.’

Earlier this week, the Federal Court of Appeals rejected the original approval of the TransMountain Pipeline expansion saying the Federal Government did not properly consult with the Indigenous communities that could be affected by the project.

Many political leaders are pointing the finger straight at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberal Government with Conservative leader Andrew Scheer calling the pipeline ‘Trudeau’s own personal failure.’

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley also had harsh words for the Trudeau Government and announced that the province is pulling out of the Federal Climate Plan.

“Until the federal government gets its act together, Alberta is pulling out of the federal climate plan and let’s be clear, without Alberta, that plan isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.”

As part of that decision, Notley says the price on carbon won’t be raised by 2021 as was a part of the Federal plan.

For many Opposition critics, that decision means nothing, as Alberta will still keep it’s carbon taxes.

Alberta Liberal Leader David Khan says the decision to pull out of the National Carbon Pricing along with the First Quarter Fiscal Update a failure.

“This is part of a disturbing pattern with the NDP Government, where their commitment to social change starts and ends with whatever they need for a photo op or a sound bite.”

That sentiment was felt by both the Alberta Party and the United Conservatives.

While UCP Leader Jason Kenney continued to blame the Provincial Carbon tax for its role in the TransMountain decision, he also said that the Federal Court of Appeals has no regard for the impact their decision will make on all Canadians.

Alberta Party Leader Stephen Mandel went so far as to say that Premier Rachel Notley owes Albertans an apology after all the promises and money spent on a pipeline that now, might not happen.

All party leaders are urging the Federal Government to appeal this decision through the Supreme Court of Canada.
