Rocky View County has released the results of its most recent survey on policing within the municipality.

Reeve Greg Boehlke said that recent RCMP figures show that the total criminal code offenses in the County rose 95 percent from 1,322 in 2014 to 2,414 in 2016.

“We saw the number drop back to 2,150 in 2017, but we need to reduce it even more.”

The county is served by officers in multiple cities including Airdrie, Cochrane, Strathmore, and Beiseker.

According to the results of the survey, the three most important areas of criminal activity that need to be addressed are major property crimes, crimes against persons and minor property crimes.

Lorraine Wesley-Riley, Manager of Enforcement Services for Rocky View County says that she wasn't surprised by the number of responses from the community due to the recent climate.

“More and more people are being impacted by crime, as a result of that, people want to have a say in what they are experiencing and this survey was a way for them to have some input.”

According to a news release from the County, the feedback on priorities will be shared with RCMP to help with their future plans. The results from County residents will be considered as well as other opinions from municipalities and provincial and federal governments.

“The survey was specifically for the RCMP for their policing priorities for the next fiscal year,” says Riley who also mentioned that the survey will not be an annual event.
