The 88 Airdrie Lynx Air Cadets had their closing ceremonies at Genesis Place on Sunday, June 5, and for some it was a bittersweet day.

While others are heading off to scholarship programs during the summer before coming back in September, a few of the cadets won't be returning next year as they graduate out of the program.

Jessie Healy, Chair of "Friends" 88 Squadron Society, said it was a great year.

"This year was fantastic. We had awesome volunteers, we always have great support from the community. You know, I couldn't ask for better."

The closing ceremonies become an important day for the cadets as they practice for it all throughout the year.

"It's what they work towards all year. They get to showcase their drill skills, the band, they do presentations with their awards. It's their years work," said Healy.

Some of the awards given out at the ceremonies include Outstanding Cadet, Top Cadet and the Legion Medal of Excellence.
