With all the activities that schools put on each year, parent volunteers are a huge part of their success.

Pam Thursfield, Parent Volunteer at AE Bowers has been volunteering in her child's school for the past five years and said that it is not just the schools that benefit.

"The children really get to see the people helping and they want to help as well. It promotes that helping within the schools and that we are all together in this."

Parent volunteers help with hot dog day, sports day, open house bbq, picture day, staff appreciation meal, book fairs, Xmas concert, wee read, the breakfast program, field trips, as well as in the classroom.

Thursfield said that all the schools in the district welcome any extra hands and that whatever time commitment you can make will make a difference.

"No matter how little time that a person has or how much time a person has, every bit of time is appreciated. If you can only show up to help out for an hour, offer that hour to those people and amazing things happen in even an hour."

To get involved with your child's school, Thursfied said that you can reach out to the school receptionist or take part in the school council meetings.
