The Alberta Gaming And Liquor Commission has officially created a website for Albertans to purchase cannabis online.

Albertacannabis.org is the only legal recreational cannabis store allowed to sell online in the province of Alberta.

According to Kaleigh Miller, Senior Communications Officer for the AGLC, the online store will act much like a third party business.

"We will be purchasing our products from the licensed producers just like any other cannabis business and then we will resell it at a retail price on the website. So we are acting like any other of the other retailers, expect it will be through the online store."

Miller explains that once this website is up and running, other online sources will be illegal.

"If you are buying cannabis from any other online source you are going against the AGLC guidelines and controlled drug act and is in essence illegal."

According to a media release from the AGLC, they will be working with 15 license producers, including three producers from Alberta and will continue to engage with producers going through the process of becoming federally licensed.

"The website is not supposed to act like competition or anything like that it is solely just another avenue to purchase from. The retailers are in the process of dealing with their local municipalities to receive businesses licenses to get stores ready for legalizations and that sort of thing. Really the two should just be complimentary, we don't have any intent on becoming a monopoly it's just another venue to purchase cannabis for various reasons."
