Airdrie's new curbside recycling service is already into it's second week and so far, Mayor Brown is impressed.

"I've been driving the City everyday just to see, just check out how many people are utilizing the bins and I see very few that aren't at the front of their driveways or in their alleys to be picked up so it's awesome to see."

Although the program is still short, Mayor Brown says that the results they're looking for are already coming up.

"The loads are coming into our contractor very clean, there's very little contamination in there...it's great to see."

There were some hiccups with the first week of pickups as some neighbourhoods were delayed due to the large volume of recycling items.

Mayor Brown said there was another issue that also came up.

"We had some growing pains. The contractor had some older type trucks, they were more like a garbage truck and they were manually dumped. They're recognizing that those aren't going to be sufficient so they've ordered new trucks."

For any concerns you have about recycling pickups, make sure to contact the City's Waste and Recycling department.
