After a relatively mild winter, we are expecting some of the coldest temperatures of the year this weekend.

According to Dan Kulak, Meteorologist with Environment Canada we are going to see the coldest temperatures so far this winter.

"It does look like temperatures over the next few days are going to be above normal until this weekend when we are expecting a huge flip with Saturday having the coldest temperatures so far."

The cause of this massive cool down is the result of artic air coming down.

"The peak of the little bit of a cool down will be on the weekend, Friday we will see the big swing depending on when that artic front comes through."

Kulak also points out that this winter has treated us good thus far.

"We get milder spells throughout the winter obviously and this winter has been one of those sitatiotns and we havent had a real blast of artic air that has any teeth to it linger around for a decent amount of time, so far the coldest tempatures this winter in the Airdrie area sits around -19."
