While many Airdrie residents may be enjoying the warmer than average winter, those eagerly waiting to use Airdrie's snowbank ice rinks may not be so lucky this season.

Cherylee Sargent, the Operations Coordinator with the Parks Department, explains what may happen if temperatures do not drop.

"Our snowbank rinks, if by mid-February we cannot establish them, then that's probably when we'd quit."

Sargent says that the city's snowbank rinks have been a struggle this year. The four which are located in Fletcher Park, Town & Country Centre, Plainsmen, and Windsong, were up and established for a short period of time in the early winter, but mother nature came along and melted all the snow. The Parks Department has been unable to get them up and running since.

However, Airdrie residents can still enjoy any of Airdrie's five outdoor boarded rinks which are good to go at this point in time. These are located in Bayside, Big Springs Crescent, Chinook Winds, East Lake Park, and Monklands.

Sargent kindly reminds ice rink users to skate at their own risk and to please exercise caution when on the ice.
