Earlier this Month the Provincial Minister of Justice announced funding and changes to Alberta Courts.

Airdrie Wildrose MLA Angela Pitt says it's good that changes are being addressed, but the decisions still fall very short.

"It's honestly only addressing positions that have been left vacant. This government has had two years to fill those and they're only addressing that now because of the push from the opposition."

Under the new triage system Pitt says that many court cases will be stayed if not enough evidence is presented.

"We're essentially saying to criminals across the province that 'if your court case is too difficult, don't worry about it because you're going to get off anyway'. It's absolutely insane."

Pitt says that approaches like these will definitely hurt those dealing with sexual assault cases, and that many offenders will walk away.

"We're now saying to survivors of sexual assault, 'don't even worry about trying to pursue criminal charges and coming forward and being brave, because we're not going to pursue them in the courts anyway'...this is sending the wrong message."
