If you were considering putting your name forward to become a candidate for the UCP party in the new Airdrie-Cochrane riding for the 2019 Alberta provincial election, you need to move fast.

The nomination contest for the new riding opened on September 14th but you need to request an application to run by 5:00 pm this afternoon (September 20).

Applications need to be accompanied by the signatures of 50 party members who reside in Airdrie-Cochrane, a $500 application fee to the United Conservative Party, $500 more to the UCP Airdrie-Cochrane Constituency Association, and an additional $1,000 refundable performance deposit.

Nomination applications are then due on Thursday, September 27th at 5:00 pm.

`The dates for the nomination contests have been established, according to Airdrie-Cochrane Constituency Association President Russell Kossowan.

The first one will take place at the Golden Rod Hall on Thursday, October 18th with polls open from noon to 8:00 pm.  The second meeting goes Saturday, October 20th at the Cochrane Ranche House.  Polls will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The new riding seems to be garnering quite a bit of interest among potential UCP candidates.  Five of them, Ian Chitwood, Peter Guthrie, Morgan Nagel, Mauri Stiff, and Laura Talsma have filed nomination papers with Elections Alberta.
