The new K - 8 school in Airdrie's Hillcrest community has a Principal.  Now, all it needs is to finish construction and get some students.

The new school is not scheduled to open until 2019 / 2020 but its new principal will take over the reins on March 1st, 2019.  Rocky View School Superintendent Greg Luterbach named John Murphy as the school's first principal last week.

When making the announcement Luterbach said, "John is a leader with a passion for creating vibrant and caring school environments.  With over 23 years of experience as a school administrator and a proven track record of successfully opening three schools, I look forward to the vision and enthusiasm he will bring to Hillcrest's new school community."

Murphy started with RVS in 2002 when he joined the division as the Principal of Crossfield Elementary School.  He later moved on to become Principal of Nose Creek Elementary in Airdrie, a position he's held since 2006.

Before joining RVS, Murphy held several teaching and administrative roles in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

Murphy holds a Master of Education, specializing in Leadership, from the U of C as well as a Bachelor of Education and a Bachelor of Arts, both from Memorial University in Newfoundland.  He also attained a Facilitation Certificate and completed a Principal Certification Program.

Rocky View Board Chair Todd Brand says, "On behalf of our Board of Trustees, I extend our congratulations to John on his new assignment.  We look forward to his continuing leadership as he takes on this new challenge."
