Albert broke its previous record for the National Loblaw Holiday Food Drive, by raising over $350,000 in 2018, making it the largest amount of money ever collected by local stores.

Airdrie was a big reason for the success, raising $4,800 to the local food bank, and pounds of non-perishable food items were donated to Food Banks Alberta and 48 other food banks across the province.

"Nearly half of Canadians know someone who has visited a food bank" -Stephanie Walsh-Rigby

Food Banks Alberta's Stephanie Walsh-Rigby, expressed why the need for food bank donations is constant, "A recent Food Banks Canada survey revealed that nearly half of Canadians know someone who has visited a food bank. The need for support only continues to grow."

Walsh-Rigby added that the food drive also gives people who use food banks healthier options "The Loblaw Holiday Food Drive helps to keep the shelves of food banks across the province stocked with healthy choices all winter long, making a huge impact on our neighbours who rely on the support of a local food bank."

Loblaw stores across Canada were able to nationally donate more than $2 million for the first time ever.
