On June 2nd, the Provincial Government announced they will help build playgrounds for Alberta's newest schools.

Each school on the project list will receive a $250,000 grant to help build a playground, and that includes some local schools.

"In Airdrie that's Windsong, the new school that was just approved in March in Hillcrest," says Colleen Munro, Chair of the Rocky View School Board.

The future Catholic school in West Airdrie is also on the list along with Cochrane's Fireside School. Munro says about 50 new or soon to be built schools in Alberta are receiving the funding

Although the Rocky View Board is happy with the announcement, Munro says there's another group that's more excited.

"More than the school division being happy, it's the parent community that will be really happy," says Munro, "When we build a new school, it's the parent community that forms a playground society and they do the fundraising to build these playgrounds."
